The last set of issues a court would consider in the McCartney-Mills divorce would be custody of Beatrice and the child support owed from one parent to another.

Custody of a child in a contested proceeding is determined by a set of statutory standards – this goes for custody when the parents are getting divorced or if the parents were never married. It’s the same standard: the best interest of the child.
